Today we attended the funeral of Jean Villette, one of our neighbors. It was not only the first funeral we've attended since moving here, but the first religious ceremony of any kind.
We felt we simply had to honor M. Villette who was one of our favorite villagers and a real friend to us.
When we first began developing our own garden, Mr. Villette was one of the most prolific gardeners in the village. He always had a friendly word for us when we walked by. He spent almost all day in his garden all summer long. It was a real joy to see his manicured plot of land and admire his perfect vegetables as they grew.
Last summer he turned 90 and his garden suffered a little. He was no longer able to give it the time he had before. This year nothing was planted or tended to at all, and it was a little sad as we walked by. We will really miss this sweet and generous old gardener. He was one of the kindest gentleman in the village.
