On our way to the Loire Valley we stopped in Lavardin, as we often do. I never tire of L'Eglise Saint Genest and it's frescos.
Painted in the XIth century, they are wonderfully naive, with warm, vibrant colors.
I captured Terrell, Rick and Farrin enjoying one of the scenes. Their amusement was elicited while looking at this one:
The image shows the faces of the damned who have been tossed into a cauldron by the devil on the right, with flames lapping from below. They were particularly enjoying the expression on the third guy from the left on the bottom row who they imaged to be saying "This isn't so bad." I doubt this was the reaction the scene was meant to inspire in the congregation when it was originally created 1000 or so years ago.
