Old town Le Mans sits on a hill above the new town (which is an uninspiring big city). The history of the settling of Le Mans is a very long one. The walls above which the old town was constructed over centuries, were put up by the Romans, and are the best preserved example of Roman walls in Europe. The town itself is very well maintained and charming. The architecture spans hundreds of years and many styles. The garden event was well attended; we had lots of company. It was a treat to be able to peek into gardens that are usually hidden behind massive wooden gates or stone walls.
