6PM in Montmirail. Photo from the window of the green room, which we are currently repainting.
Our winter project this year was to take up the old sisal rug in the green room, which was frayed. We wondered why the former owners had covered up the beautiful old terra cotta tiles with wall to wall sisal, uncomfortable on bare feet. We were a bit nervous that perhaps the tiles underneath were spoiled. Once we took the sisal up, however, we discovered that the tiles themselves were in perfectly good condition except for a thick coat of glue that had been slathered on under the sisal to hold it in place. It was a heart-breaking job to get it off, requiring grinders. scrapers, heat-gun, solvents, sanders and a lot of elbow grease for days and days.
