Maison Conti is open throughout the year. Each season brings its particular pleasures. Autumn walks among the colorful trees, cozy winter evenings by the fire, the blazing safflower fields of spring, long summer evenings on the terrace, listening to the swifts playing among the roof tops.
The castle of Montmirail is open to visit during summer months. The church is active and offers services on Sundays. The village also has a bakery, pharmacy, post office, bar and even a hair dresser.
We are well located as a stop-over for people traveling from the north towards the south of France, or from the east towards the Brittany coast. We are a very short escape from Paris for a quiet weekend. And our area, one of the less known in France, is well worth an extended stay. If you're looking for a relaxing, authentic French country experience, away from the crowds, you'll find it in Montmirail. Less than an hour's drive away, are the Loire Valley, Chartres, Le Mans and the heart of the Perche.
If you just want to stay put, we have lots of games and a lending library, as well as an extended network of trails just outside the door. Our area boasts some of the most pleasant green tourist sites in France. There are many back roads to poke around, horseback riding, kayaking and other sports activities are readily available. La Ferté-Bernard has an exquisite church with one of the best examples of carved stone lettering in the world, beautiful half-timbered buildings and wooden carvings from the Middle Ages, as well as an intricate system of canals, which can be explored in rented boats. You won't have to fight the crowds, there are seldom huge busloads of tourists and the weather is generally mild. There are several restaurants where you can dine. Le Marais is open all day, every day of the year. It serves simple, but delicious brasserie-style food, with an extensive menu. Au Bistronome is a bistrot, moderately priced and open for both lunch and dinner. Le Dauphin is a Michelin bib gourmand restaurant, offering a fine dining experience at a reasonable cost.
